Commercial Sales Engineer

The Commercial Sales Engineer will be responsible for driving the promotion and adoption of the specification of Gensco's commercial product line. The ideal candidate will become a trusted partner to specifying engineering firms and design build contractors in the region to increase sales and Gensco's reputation within the commercial market. Duties and Responsibilities: Plan&Spec Develop and maintain relationships with Architects and Engineers and assists them in the specification of Gensco applied products Educate Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Owners about products through Lunch & Learn presentations and one-on-one meetings Respond to requests for quotes from Outside Sales Reps and Customers within the assigned territory Combine industry knowledge along with product knowledge to support sales Recommend product enhancements that increase efficiency Design Build Coordinates with Outside Sales Reps and Branch teams to help mechanical contractors lay out projects and address design challenges Receive requests for quotations and prepare accurate and timely cost estimates per their project requirements Track projects from conception to completion utilizing P21 software Recommend product enhancements that lower costs or increase efficiency Account Management Maintain existing account list within the territory Add and develop new accounts in all business segments, including HVAC, Refrigeration, Industrial, Commercial Development Prioritize and coordinate multiple/simultaneous/time sensitive projects and tasks Schedule regular sales calls and build positive relationships with customers Have a comprehensive knowledge of and be able to communicate diverse product offerings, applications and provide cost effective solutions Communicate new product offerings and product updates to customers Utilize all available resources to create informative and compelling customer presentations Communicate competitive information to appropriate sales and product management personnel Participate in training and seminars as required Communicate lead time, and efficiently process quotes to provide accurate and on time delivery to customer Review engineering plans and specifications to provide appropriate product selections Utilize industry manufacturer software for product selection and sizing Request special pricing and product selection support from Suppliers Track all quoted projects and associated pricing structure Creation of submittal package for ordered projects Interface with Gensco departments to provide feedback on product pricing, quality, and customer satisfaction Gain industry knowledge and product expertise through corporate training, field experience and self-motivated learning Provide training to Inside and Outside Sales Representatives in best practices for developing quotes for a range of products. Track local pricing trends, communicate to Outside Sales and coordinate pricing strategies to increase sales.


  • Education/Experience:
  • 4 year college degree required, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Construction 3+ years outside sales experience within the HVAC industry preferred
  • Prior engineering consulting experience
  • Ability to respond promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback to improve service and maintain confidentiality
  • Able to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, and use time efficiently
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, and monitors own work to ensure quality
  • Consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance
  • Manages existing customer relationships and is able to increase bid opportunities with those existing customers
  • Able to work alone and in teams
  • Possesses excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage details and meet deadlines with 100% accuracy in a multi-task environment
