Assistant Engineer

Tacoma, Washington


The Assistant Engineer position supports and assists with the startup of new manufacturing products and equipment; studies and conducts tests on current equipment, materials, parts and components; and performs research work necessary to develop new or refined products and follows through to actual production. Duties and Responsibilities: - Assists Gensco’s management team in identifying new products and product line opportunities to manufacture - Works with Gensco’s Engineer to develop feasibility studies on proposed new products and product lines - Supports and assists Gensco’s Engineer in developing action plans and critical paths for each new project - Performs technical research on product specifications - Supports and assists in the design of manufacturing processes to accomplish both product specifications and financial goals, including equipment requirements, layouts and labor processes - Sources and negotiates required equipment - Sources and negotiates component parts and raw materials - Supports the implementation of new product lines into Gensco’s manufacturing planning system including shelf space requirements and layout, production schedule information based on product movement (safety stock, order point, maximum capacity, etc.) and supply purchasing program - Assists Marketing Department in the production of product specification sales tools - Works with Gensco’s Engineer to design and perform Team Member training


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have extensive fabrication and mechanical experience
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Proactive, self-motivated, able to recognize issues and resolve or escalate appropriately
  • Proven successful project management experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer service-oriented approach, responds to requests with a sense of urgency
  • Willing to “think out of the box” and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage details and meet deadlines with 100% accuracy in a multi-task environment
  • Requires the ability move freely about the facility, work sitting or standing, operate basic business machines, and lift and carry office supplies
