Transportation Specialist

Description

-Perform a broad range of Logistics responsibilities with a focus on special projects and corporate endeavors, Provide branch-level Transportation support and education, Assist TDC -Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly and treating all external and internal customers fairly and honestly; provide knowledgeable and insightful transportation support to Gensco teams. -Manage RFP Transportation bid projects; manage Gensco branch relocation projects; evaluate the expansion of Columbia Only product trucks; provide Transportation consulting services for Corporate endeavors. -Work with branch teams to ensure shipping SOP adherence; provide parcel shipping support for UPS World Ship and FedEx Ship Manager Systems; support and promptly resolve branch-level local carrier concerns and issues. -Evaluate current processes for improvement and efficiency opportunities; make recommendations based upon experience, knowledge and industry contacts/information; identify freight spend saving opportunities. -Understand the intricacies of TDC Transportation; assist with daily activities of TDC Transportation; serve as back up to the TDC Transportation Manager, TDC Transportation Supervisor and TDC Administration Supervisor.

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Four year degree required
  • Minimum of three years of related traffic experience in a distribution environment preferred
  • Strong contract/pricing negotiation skills required
  • Experience with all modes of domestic transportation
  • Familiarity with Parcel shipping
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and Hazmat requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, the ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong decision making abilities - understands impact and implications of decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage details and meet deadlines with 100% accuracy
  • Customer service oriented, responds to requests with the proper sense of urgency (Internal/External)
  • Strong PC skills including Word, Excel are required, access and PowerPoint are preferred.
  • Willing to “think out of the box” and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma experience desired
  • Strong personal initiative and work ethic required
  • Ability to travel overnight required
